People often contact NorCAN for information and resources on a variety of topics related to nonprofit administration and governance. Here are some of the online resources we regularly use:

  • American Nonprofit Academy offers many great courses around board recruitment and development, functions of board liaisons, tools and strategies.

  • CalNonprofits is a fantastic resource for grant programs, COVID-19 impacts and updates as well as how to start a nonprofit in CA, compliance and resources for advocacy.

  • Compasspoint’s blog features short articles on a variety of nonprofit operational, governance and leadership dynamics including exploring race/power/privilege, boards, coaching, sustainability, theory of change models, strategy and interpersonal communication.

  • GrantSpace is the Foundation Center's thorough online searchable library. Check out their incredible lists of tools, articles, and other resources on many things nonprofit.

  • Impact Foundry builds sustainable nonprofit capacity by providing relevant consulting and programs and aligning nonprofits culturally to connect with their clients.

  • race forward catalyzes movement building for racial justice. In partnership with communities, organizations, and sectors, they build strategies to advance racial justice in policies, institutions, and culture through. Race Forward offers helpful reports, trainings and practice.

  • NonprofitHub.org is another great online resource. Their site features podcasts, webinars, courses, articles, and blog posts on everything from marketing to board development.

  • Blue Avocado is an online magazine with practical, provocative and fun food for thought on topics related to board development, human resources, volunteerism, finance and strategy. 

  • Nonprofit Quarterly is an online and print magazine focused on all aspects of nonprofit management, leadership and governance.

  • Nonprofit AF is a weekly blog featuring witty pieces that challenge the nonprofit status quo, encourage self care, and offer important consideration about leadership, management, board service, and community engagement.

  • Oregon Association of Nonprofits offers a variety of resources for nonprofits; from current grant programs and up-to-date COVID-19 resources to resources for virtual volunteerism and inclusive leadership practices and more.

  • The National Council of Nonprofits is a trusted resource and proven advocate for America’s charitable nonprofits including the impacts of COVID-19. The National Council of Nonprofits Connects policy dots across all levels and branches of governments, and keeps nonprofits informed and empowered to create a positive public policy environment that best supports nonprofits in advancing their missions.
