September is National Preparedness Month

Did you know that September is National Preparedness Month? The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has specific recommendations for how to prepare for an emergency, including gathering nonperishable food, safe water and basic supplies. At HAF we have done a lot of research on disaster preparedness. While our offices in Bayside are just outside of the tsunami zone, surrounding roads are not. With that in mind, we prepared totes of disaster supplies to make sure that if anyone using our meeting rooms were stranded here, they would be comfortable and fed. We have enough food, water and supplies to sustain 30 people for 3 days. We restock the food every year before it expires, donating it to Food for People. Staff members also have individual “disaster backpacks” with food and personal comfort items, including plush blankets, board games and flashlights. Are you prepared? Check the CDC’s website for recommendations: https://www.cdc.gov/phpr/npm/npm2018.htm
